Leveraging location. Located steps away from the Capitol Building, this property’s initial value was simply it’s proximity. Bringing fresh ideas to the project, we added a new floor providing our client with a first-class building and conference facility.
Project Details
Constructed in 1886 as a retail building the project is located in the Capitol Hill Historic District, in a block of highly decorative Victorian buildings, and one block from the Nation’s Capitol. The challenge to design a first-rate conference facility for a DC based non-profit ‘think-tank’ in a 122 year old building with a 20 ft by 90 ft footprint resulted in a multi-faceted construction solution that included the addition of a 3rd story above the historic facade, a 3-story rear addition, excavation of a full-lot basement and restoration of the original 2-story façade. The scope of work included interior design services which entailed an extensive use of custom millwork and state-of-the-art audio/visual capabilities.
